There have been a lot of stories lately on it.  And, let\u2019s face it, most people don\u2019t want to have to go bankrupt if though they\u2019re visiting a trustee in bankruptcy.  So, what is a consumer proposal?  Well actually, it\u2019s quite simple.  A proposal is essentially a settlement you make with your secure creditors.  When I say a settlement, you\u2019re essentially going to offer them some kind of an arrangement, and arrangement that you can do, that you can handle, it\u2019s got to be within your means, that hopefully they will accept as being full and complete settlement of what you owe them. In other words you\u2019re going to trade whatever your total debt is today for a brand new amount that you negotiate with them through the trustee through the consumer proposal process.  If they accept, the rest is up to you.  All you have to do is make the payments . And you stretch this out over a period of up to five years.
